A Sillyband, Una Lira, and a Leather-bound Book.

This appears to be my first blog post and I don't exactly know how to properly kick this thing off.  Maybe I should break a bottle of champagne over my computer and yell in Italian while confetti falls from the sky.  Of course I don't have the time or the funds to start my trip or my writing endeavor in such an extravagant way.  I'll tell you how it begins...

I drank a cup of coffee at 8:30 PM and now I'm so hopped up on espresso I just feel as if I need to write this.  For all of you who don't know, I am under the impression that every artist needs some sort of creative stimulant.  I always choose caffeine.

I drove out to Amherst and South Hadley on Monday night and enjoyed my last day and a half (for a year that is...) of 5-college life--walked around North Hampton, watched a homeless person who was trying to steal a shopping cart that was chained to a PVTA sign, got air-conditioning water dripped into my vegetarian burrito, paid for the burrito anyway, and enjoyed a trip to Herrell's with Marly as she carried a rug around on her shoulder.  I said goodbye to a number of friends and got a few gifts/hugs along the way--grazie mille everyone, I will miss you while I am away!  Overall it was a beautiful time, though I'm pretty sure that I was the sweatiest person alive today around 2 PM. (Oh hey I found my sunglasses by the way so no worries there).

And now I'm home.  I started packing my clothes and I'm afraid that I don't have enough for winter.  I'm not going to worry though because right now there is nothing I can do about it and also this just gives me an excuse to buy Italian clothing.  I feel that perhaps I am overreacting because I am used to my normal New England winters and I tend to forget what cold means here and what cold means everywhere else (except for Canada and Russia, I'm pretty sure they beat us in that department...and in the highest mountain altitudes like the Himalayas ecc.)  Let's just say that my long underwear will probably go unused.

My room is basically an array of disarray.  Organized chaos.  Picture a passport next to a pair of pink shoes next to a book by Hemingway and complimented nicely by a few notebooks, a bulletin board, and a million other things that I need to sort through.  All of the clothes that I am not bringing are on my pink corner chair, there are about seven pairs of sunglasses in sight...my bicycling helmet and goggles are going to miss me and vice-versa.

I don't really have much else to say now because I am winding down...

A special mention to my friend Elizabeth who almost made me cry--bravo Elizabeth, this never happens!  And a reminder to everyone who wants a letter to please send me their college/home address.  Also my cell phone will be turned off until (September 2011 I assume?) so please do not call me after 10 AM on Thursday morning.  I may write more tomorrow, but in the meantime I encourage you to read Angela's blog because she is actually in France and doing exciting things while I sit at home and wait to leave.  Cheers.  Here is the link:
